For many dog lovers, a vacation isn’t a vacation unless your family is with you....and that includes your beloved pet. Fortunately, there are more dog-friendly destinations than you might think, so you and your pup can enjoy the sights and the local action together.
Amy Burkert, creator of the award-winning pet travel website and blog GoPetFriendly.com, recently embarked on a 15,000-mile tour of the country with her husband, Rod, and their dogs, Ty and Buster. Their mission was to scout out the top dog-friendly attraction in 48 states and Washington, D.C., and Burkert’s new book, The Ultimate Pet Friendly Road Trip, is the result of their trip.
Some of Burkert’s favorite attractions include activities for people seeking different levels of adventure. “The great thing is that there’s something for everyone out there. For those who love to hike with their dog, there are so many terrific options,” Burkert explains. “And plenty of people, and their pets, aren’t interested in climbing mountains, and there are plenty of options for them as well.”
