Bernese Mountain Dog Refusing To Leave the Park Channels Inner Toddler in Hilarious Tantrum

He's not done yet!

Even the most well-behaved dogs can have their moments. Just like a human child, it can sometimes be hard for them to leave their favorite places, and if they’re overtired, they can have a toddler-like tantrum when asked to go.

This handsome Bernese Mountain Dog thought he was calling the shots when his mom said it was time to go home from the park. While he may be too big to pick up and put in the car, she still showed him who was boss.

Watch how she got him to comply in this video from October 15th.

We’ve all felt like this before. Mack (@mack_the_berner) was having such a delightful day at the park he didn’t want to leave when Mom said it was time to go. Even with his Bernese Mountain Dog sister already patiently waiting in the car, he could not be swayed from the field where he sat. That is until Mom pretended to drive away. Not wanting to be left behind, he ran across the field and straight towards the car when her wheels began to turn. LOL! This tactic worked like a charm, and he hopped into the car with no additional fuss. Thankfully, this clever mom knew how to push her beautiful pup’s buttons to get him to comply. Goodness knows, no one wants to try dragging a 100+ pound dog across the field.

Training Dogs to Respond Reliably When Called

According to the AKC, one of the most critical aspects of teaching the recall command is to make it a game. This game should be played in a distraction-free environment, using treats and praise to reward our dogs when they come when called. Once they have mastered this aspect, the training can be practiced in more challenging environments. The AKC recommends practicing these recalls daily and never punishing our dogs when they come to us when called, even if they take extra time to do it.

Mack’s behavior amused people. One viewer responded, “He’s trying to get to you so fast when you’re driving away. Mom, don’t leave with my girl.” He didn’t want to be alone more than he wanted to stay in the park. Viewer @allison_w_cleveland shared, “OMG, the hours I spent trying to get my Mathilda out of the dog park. Every time, I would tell her we were not coming back! But we did.” They know us too well.

Although our dogs might sometimes protest our requests, they give us endless moments to be thankful for. And even when they’re being a little bad, they are still the best.
