Bernese Mountain Dog's 'Stressed-Out Concern' Over Little Girl Playing Outside Is Heart-Melting
Toward the end of her life, our dog Chocolate became known as the "fun police" around our house. My cat was only eight weeks old when I adopted her, and after we brought her home, Chocolate loved to fuss over her, just like any grandmother would fuss over a baby. As a curious kitten, naturally, she loved to climb as high as she could inside our apartment, and every time she tried something daring, Chocolate would be there, on the ground, whining and barking to get her attention (and ours) to make her get down from there.
There are plenty of dogs who become that kind of guardian over the children in their families, and that includes the Bernese Mountain Dog in this TikTok video. As a stressed out mom myself, I know one when I see one!
On Wednesday, October 16, the dog parents behind @ivytheberner on TikTok shared this footage of her little girl playing outside while her Bernese Mountain Dog, Ivy, supervised, and let's just say that Ivy was probably wishing the kid was wearing a helmet and knee pads as she climbed on that swing set.
The kiddo in question is just doing what kids do: climbing up the mini rock climbing wall on her playground in the backyard. She's even taking all the right safety precautions, like holding onto the rope and wearing good shoes. But that is not enough to make Ivy feel more confident. Instead, she is posted up at the bottom, giving her dad a look that clearly says, "hey, are you gonna do anything about this?"
It wasn't just the climbing that stressed Ivy out, though. It was also the swing, which the little girl was being very safe on, too. Not enough for her four-legged guardian, though.
"When you're the bodyguard but your protectee is a thrill seeker," they wrote in the caption.
Oh, poor Ivy.
Ivy Is the Best Bodyguard
Ivy has been keeping a close eye on her little sister for her entire life — and yes, she's always been this overprotective.
Here, we can see it happen in a video from 2022, when her sis was just an infant. Even though she wasn't causing trouble on the playground yet, she was asleep in a stroller being pushed by her mother. But judging by the way Ivy came running down that hill when she realized she'd gotten too far from the baby, you wouldn't think so!
She was even careful to protect her when they would watch the snow fall out their window, keeping her arms around her to make sure she didn't fall. Now that's a sweet moment.
I just hope Ivy remembers to have fun with her kid, too, even in the midst of all those worries. They grow up so fast!
