Black Cats' Cute Confusion While Carefully Inspecting Pumpkin Is Full of the Halloween Spirit
It's pumpkin season: we're carving them, we're placing them all over. We're baking wit them. We're putting them in our coffee. We're roasting their seeds. If you don't have at least one pumpkin in your house during the fall, you're the weird one.
However, a little known fact: pumpkins are a cat's worse enemy. For some reason, cats just can't seem to puzzle out what's happening when it comes to these gourds, and it's a little hilarious. On Saturday, October 26th, one trio of black cats were so perplexed by a pumpkin that they could hardly contain themselves:
When Mother Of Kittens got these three, I highly doubt she had any idea that they'd be losing their minds over a pumpkin. You're black cats! Pumpkins are supposed to be your thing!
These three cats are all rescues, which is wonderful news, because there are a lot of black cats in shelters all over. Their mom actually works for FurKids Midtown Atlanta, which is a shelter in Atlanta, Georgia. She uses her account to raise awareness for them, but also to showcase her own silly kitties, who are no stranger to antics of their own.
The one who really seems to hate the pumpkin in this video is Prince: he doesn't like the way it looks or feels, and he definitely doesn't trust it around his siblings. Good on him for taking one for the team and investigating!
Why Do Cats Hate Whole Pumpkins?
It's not just house cats that hate whole pumpkins - there have been videos of even leopards freaking out when they come across a pumpkin. For a big cat that personally hunts down every meal it eats, that's even funnier - really? That's what you're scared of?
Cats hate pumpkins because they're weird. When they're uncut, they're almost impossible to get into, even with their big sharp teeth. They're just big orange balls, and they're cold, and they're weirdly smooth. Cats feel threatened by things they can't identify, and pumpkins make the list.
When it's cut open, though, some cats really enjoy pumpkin, just like dogs do! You can cut it open and cook it; cats usually like the flavor! You can spoon a little bit of cooked, pureed pumpkin into a lick mat or even into their regular cat food. Pumpkin has lots of fiber and antioxidants that can help keep their digestive tracts on track, too!
Maybe when Prince gets his revenge and this pumpkin is cut open, they can make peace. Until then, though, that gourd better look out!
