Borzoi's Patience While Being Bombarded by Tiny Kitten Is Better Than Humans
Kittens are naturally fun, curious, and social animals who make friends wherever they go. Though many dogs are the same way, others are a little more hesitant about new connections. This is true for one Borzoi named Mei, who thinks things are moving a little too fast with her feline visitors.
On June 13, 2024, TikTok account @severalsnoots shared the moment sweet Mei practiced her patience as a tiny kitten swoons over her. Watch the heartwarming clip below.
"My brother's kittens came to visit today," the writing in the video says. "This was the first time meeting Mei, as they were too small last time. She was so patient with them and I'm so proud."
The clip opens with Mei lying on a couch while a tiny orange and white kitten snuggles up against her, happily giving kisses and nuzzling Mei's face. The Borzoi, who are generally known to be calm, agreeable, and sensitive dogs, doesn't exactly reciprocate the love, but she doesn't brush her new friend away either.
"Please note: they were closely monitored they're entire time together and we ended up taking the kitten away after about 5 minutes to give Mei a break," the caption adds. "She wasn't interested in interacting again and so we kept the kittens away."
The video only lasts 37 seconds but it'll leave you feeling all the warm and fuzzies, thanks to Mei's gentle nature and the love this sweet kitten offers her. Many viewers agree—Mei is the real MVP here!
"Stoppp it! Sweet nursery attendant borzoi are my FAVE," one person wrote. "We must worship the snoot! And grace it with affection!" another said. "OMG how sweet is this!!" another added.
How Should You Introduce a Cat to Your Dog?
In a perfect world, it wouldn't be difficult to introduce a new furry friend to your dog, but not all connections end peacefully. The American Kennel Club says it's important to know your dog's temperament and also follow a few important steps to ensure the safety of all animals—and humans—involved.
Before a meeting can take place, keep the animals separate for 3-4 days and give the new cat a place to roam freely, away from the dog where he or she has access to a litter box, food, and water. In the beginning, feed them on opposite sides of a closed door so they get used to each other's presence while associating them with something good (i.e. eating).
From there, and assuming your dog knows basic commands already, you can begin short, calm, face-to-face meetings with your dog on a leash. Giving both the cat and dog treats for good behavior reenforces this as something pleasant. Repeat this daily until they can coexist freely together. It's a slow process but a safe one.
Not all dogs will stay as calm as Mei, but with a little patience like hers and a lot of love, they'll be friends in no time.
