Boston Terrier Protecting Mom From 'Turkey Invasion' Is the Best Guardian
Dogs don't usually help much around the house, let's be honest with ourselves. They lie around, actively make messes, eat our food, make our furniture smell like corn chips, and spend our money. Their lives are so easy.
However, they earn their keep; they're snuggly, adorable, and they really do love and want to protect us. At every turn, our dogs will protect us if we need it. Take, for example, this video from a recent turkey invasion in a woman's backyard. Her pup was all over it:
Punkie the Boston Terrier is a true savior. Thank goodness for her bravery; without her, who would've told mom there were turkeys in the yard?
Punkie is not nearly as famous as she should be. Though she's sitting at 12,000 followers and nearly a million likes across all of her videos, it's not enough. If ever there was a Boston Terrier who truly encapsulated Boston Terrier energy as a whole, it is Punkie.
In this video, she's disproving a myth that people who don't have Boston Terriers love to spread: that they're quiet. On the contrary: Boston Terriers will bark incessantly 24/7 if they're not properly trained not to. If they see something they don't like, they're barking at it. If they see something they do like, they're barking at it. They're barking. It worked in Punkie's favor this time, though; turkeys in your yard are a scary thing. Turkeys are mean!
How to Discourage Wild Turkeys From Your Property
If you live somewhere with a large wild turkey population, you know how much of a nuisance they can be. They pluck up your grass, steal seeds from your garden, and leave waste all over your yard, which then becomes something you have to make sure your pets don't eat. Also, where there's one, there's usually at least four more!
The best way to discourage turkeys from invading your space is to make a lot of loud noises, so Punkie is doing the right thing. Barking dogs are quick to scare off turkeys most of the time! If you don't have a particularly bark-happy pup, you can try wind chimes, yelling at the birds, or even using a whistle. Sorry, neighbors!
Beyond that, you should put up fencing around your garden and always make sure you don't leave trash out in the open. Turkeys will pick through in search of things like fruit cores, so you should also lock up your compost bins. Try playing this video for them, they'll probably go running!
