Bulldog Stealing a Pumpkin From Mom's Display Is a True Gourd Guardian
Holiday decorating season is one of the most wonderful times of the year. People who decorate often go all out, and stores are making it easier than ever to find cute stuff. You can even decorate for Thanksgiving now!
There's one slight pickle, though: neighborhood pets might fall head over heels for your displays. So much so that they might try to take a souvenir to remember it by, like the Bulldog in this video from Wednesday, September 25th:
I think @dee53970's display is beautiful, with or without that stolen pumpkin! I hope Mia appreciates it, too.
The pup in this video is Mia, and she has a big brother named Gus who's every bit as mischievous as his little sister is. She's still a puppy, and as a result, she's willing to chew on just about anything. According to her comments, this pumpkin was actually a fake one.
However, that doesn't make this better: allegedly, Mia also chewed the stems off of her real pumpkins. She's just a baby! She's teething, and apparently pumpkin stems are great for teething puppies. Before she could get too far with this one, though, it was taken from her!
How to Pet-Proof a Holiday Display
No matter what the occasion, if you want to decorate, you need to take pets into account. Your pets and others will be spending a lot of time around your holiday decor, and if you're not careful, they could end up wrecking it. Luckily, there are a few tried-and-true tips to make sure things go as smoothly as they possibly can:
- Put a baby gate up around indoor displays like trees or cutouts.
- Try not to leave anything out overnight that they could get into while you sleep.
- Avoid strongly scented decorations (like cinnamon brooms).
- Keep outdoor displays closer to the house instead of near the street to avoid dogs going potty on or stealing the decorations.
- Spray everything down with vinegar to deter them.
- Put up a temporary fence at the front of your yard as a barrier.
When we decorate for a holiday, obviously, we're doing it for ourselves. Most of the time, you don't have to worry about pets wreaking havoc, but it's always good to be prepared. If you're really concerned, you can always invest in security cameras. Those will bring you peace of mind that'll last all year!
As for Mia... this phase will last all year, too. I can't wait to see what she does at Christmastime!
