Cats Have the Sweetest Motive for Sleeping Near Their Pet Parents
Unlike dogs, cats aren’t aways as upfront about how much they like you. We can assume they do when the allow us to pet their belly or when they purr for us. But another way they show their trust and love comes at bedtime, according to a new TikTok.
On August 3, TikTok user Cat Tigrous (@cat_tigrous) shared a video highlighting a question many cat parents have: “Why does your cat sleep with you?” The video is worth the watch — take a look!
The video sets out to answer why cats sleep next to their humans, and the reason is really adorable: “It helps keep them safe.”
The video explains further sharing that there’s one reason why cats do this that’s more important that others.
“Perhaps the most important reason for why cats like to sleep near their owners is security,” the text on the screen of the video reads as cute clips of a cat named Tigrous plays.
“Even though cats are small predators they're also at risk of being hunted by bigger animals. Cats are most vulnerable when they're asleep,” the explanation continues. “Sleeping with you provides them with security and an extra layer of defense. If a predator should launch a night time attack they sleep with you because they trust you.”
And if that’s not the cutest thing ever! People in the comment section ate it up too, with those whose cats sleep with them feeling a little extra love today.
“My tabby doesn’t sleep with me. He prefers to sleep by himself in living room,” one person wrote.
“They ARE the late night attack,” added someone else.
“Yeah but I don't trust her. one move of my feet and she's ready to attack me,” shared another person.
“I wish I could explain to them they are no longer in danger,” one viewer added.
“My cats sleeps with me only when they are hungry,” quipped another.
“Mine sleeps on my pillow with me. She loves it but I just get a face full of fur,” joked someone else.
According to AKC Reunite, cats love security and company too.
“Cats are often thought of as being independent creatures who are happy in their own company,” the publication notes. “But your cat can get lonely. Interacting with the human they love helps to enrich their lives (and yours). If your cat sleeps with you this indicates that they enjoy your company and want to spend time with you.”
