Mom Catches Hilarious Footage of Cat Getting Into the Dog Biscuits

He's not even trying to be discreet.

Cats are much more mischievous than any dog could ever be. There's just something in their eyes that feels so... scheme-y, like they're smarter than us. Truthfully, they usually are.

On Wednesday, January 7th, one cat mom caught the exact moment on camera when her cat finally found a way to break into the dog's treats:

Loki Does Tricks? More like Loki Commits Crimes. Loki Does Lock Up (In Prison!).

Loki is known to be a little bit over the top, and it's funny every time. From demanding to have on a little lion's mane to watch a movie with his parents to having a special bedtime routine to pulling of heists for treats, Loki has done it all, and he will continue to do it all.

In this video, he's finding his way into the dog biscuits and having himself a little snack. He doesn't look up once: he thinks he's gotten away with it. Luckily, though, his mom caught it all. Even though this video is hilarious and Loki in general is a total hoot, it's good that he was caught. Once might not hurt, but unfettered access to treats could have some serious impacts on his health longterm.

How to Keep Treats Safe From Cats

When you have a smart kitty like Loki, you have to get kind of creative in order to keep them from getting into their treats when you're not looking. There are a few main things you can do, like:

  1. Keep treats in sealed, hard-plastic containers with lids. Cats may be able to tear into unopened or even resealable treat bags with their teeth or claws.
  2. Keep treats in pet-locked cabinets. You can buy special locks that little heads or claws can't get open.
  3. Keep treats in higher cabinets. It requires a lot more work to get into those high-up cabinets, and you can put deterrents on the countertops that you can't put on the floor.

Unfortunately, no matter how well you train your cat, they will take any opportunity they can to get to their treats. After all, they are animals. In addition to keeping your treats up out of reach, you should also be keeping a cat's food in a locked container. Just like it's not good for them to have too many treats, it's not good for them to have too much food.

What To Do If Your Cat Ate Too Much

If you find out that your cat has been sneaking treats after they've already eaten them all, it can be kind of scary. Too much of a good thing is ultimately a bad thing, and depending on how long it's been going on, the cat could be facing serious issues, like:

  1. Obesity
  2. Lethargy
  3. Diarrhea
  4. Vomiting

If you catch your cat red-pawed with an empty bag of treats, take it from them and call the vet. You should give them a rough estimate of how many the cat ate: most likely, they'll tell you to simply keep track of them and bring them in if they appear to be really ill. Depending on what they ate, they may recommend bringing them in to have their stomach pumped. Luckily, Loki's mom caught him just in time!
