Clever Border Collie Discovers Water Feature on Fridge and Turns Kitchen Into Splash Zone
Having an intelligent dog has its benefits. For example, breeds like Border Collies use their high IQ to make decisions when caring for farm animals or their families. They are also easy to teach and show their brain power during training sessions, quickly picking up on new skills and showing off their effortless finesse when taking part in activities like agility.
However, there are downsides to having a genius dog, and this is especially true when they have learned to use kitchen appliances. Check out this video shared by @careerinqueue on October 15 to see how this clever pup gets a drink of cold water.
Talk about a clever guy! It’s safe to assume someone else in the house was getting blamed for the water on the floor until Willy (@officialwillygooddog) was caught in action. This beautiful Border Collie is an ideal example of this lovely breed’s intelligence and determination. He had watched the cold water being dispensed enough to know how it worked, and when he felt a little thirsty, it was time to try this machine for himself. Hopefully, after making this discovery, his mom could engage a child safety lock to prevent the kitchen from being flooded.
Do Border Collies Learn by Observation?
There’s a reason research scientist Stanley Coren considers the Border Collie the most intelligent breed in the world. These quick learners are so astute that they can often learn a command or behavior the first time they’re shown. These keen observers also quickly become familiar with household routines. However, according to Border Collies In Need, they are especially sensitive and can become inconsolable when corrected with a mildly stern tone. As you might imagine, this spirited breed needs lots of mental stimulation besides plenty of physical exercise to keep them out of mischief.

One person shared, “I had to turn the child lock on mine. My German Shepherd does this. Ice and water all over the place. Now he gets mad and just barks at the fridge.” Oh my, I’m not sure what’s worse. Another person reported, “We had a Shar Pei who would do this with the ice. We kids would get blamed for all the ice on the floor until my parents saw him do it. Then we were like, See!” Viewer @sunsethillaussies remarked, “Lol, that just made my morning… Well… mostly because it’s your Aussie and not mine.” That’s a good point. It’s not as funny when we’re cleaning up the mess.
After seeing this, I’m grateful my pups haven’t learned that the fridge dispenses water. While training a brilliant dog may be easier, it certainly has its challenges.
