Doting Dad's Cute Way of Succumbing to Bernese Mountain Dog's Demands Is Priceless
When dogs decide they don't want to do something, there's little pet parents can do to change their minds. They'll do it when they're good and ready. Riggie, the Bernese Mountain Dog, is a prime example of this after he brought his walk to a full stop and refused to get up. But instead of forcing it, Dad does the sweetest thing.
In the video shared by @riggietheberner, Riggie is doing what Berners do best—whatever they want! So instead of fighting it, Dad decides to join him! Take a look at the sweet scene!
"When your Berner is being a Berner," the clip begins as Riggie halts the walk and puts all his weight on the ground. Dad tries to pull him to get up and move, but the Berner refuses, even rolling around on his back to show how definitively he will not go just yet.
"If you can't beat 'em, join 'em," the video concludes, showing Dad sitting next to Riggie on the ground for a few extra snuggles.
"When your Daddy is a sucker for your “stubbernese” cuteness and cuddles," the caption says, and many of the pup's fanbase agree that these are traits of Berners!
"When they put the brakes on, there is no moving them, ever! Greatness!" one person wrote.
"Classic Riggie! You win The Academy Award for Lead Actor in a Drama," another said.
"The only right way to deal with Berner tantrums!" another noted.
Clearly everyone is familiar with dogs like the Rigster, but more so how they're so adorable, we don't care that they're stubborn!
Bernese Mountain Dogs Can Have a Stubborn Streak
Like Riggie, Berners are total sweethearts who thrive in an environment where they get lots of attention and love. But many sites, like Dogster, describe Bernese Mountain Dogs as being stubborn at times, even when they've been through obedience training.
The gentle giants are generally friendly, calm, and easy going, but there's a slight difference in traits when comparing male and female Berners. While males can be more reliable, predictable, and less stubborn, females might strive for more independence and can be moody at times. The caveat is that females mature faster, so they're more likely to respond to training cues sooner than their male counterpart.
However, when these smart pups act a bit stubborn, male or female, it's short-lived, and they'll likely still maintain their playfulness and affection at the same time, so it's hard to get mad at them! They know what they're doing!
Overall, these adorably cuddly cuties are big kids at heart so the next time you see a Berner throwing him or herself onto the ground in protest like Riggie, join 'em!
