Republican Governor's Beloved English Bulldog 'Babydog' Steals the Show on Election Night
Lots of people had a very big, huge night last night including Republican Governor Jim Justice's dog, Babydog Justice, who will now be headed to Washington after her owner won his Senate campaign.
Babydog became beloved by many after she was the star at the Republican National Convention in July and alongside her dad on the campaign trail accompanying him to campaign events and meet-and-greets throughout his campaign.
The caption reads, "Jim Justice’s beloved English bulldog, Babydog, is back in the spotlight as the Republican governor, who famously campaigned across the state with his furry sidekick, has successfully flipped the U.S. Senate seat long held by Sen. Joe Manchin."
So many fans of this sweet English Bulldog are cheering on Babydog in the FoxNews TikTok page comments. One person said, "So proud of our Babydog!" Another added, "Babydog goes to Washington!" Someone else said, "You just gotta love Babydog."
The Mirror reports that "Babydog was made a key part of Jim Justice's campaign, often appearing on the campaign trail over the course of the summer - with Justice saying she "lifted spirits" during his 2020 Covid briefings. Justice said: "When she joined me during my Covid briefings, I hoped she could lift spirits during a tough time, and the response was beyond what I imagined. Now, she's always by my side as we travel, and folks really get excited to meet her."
During the height of the Covid pandemic there was even a website to encourage West Virginians to get vaccinated called Do It For Babydog. Prizes included lifetime hunting and fishing permits and education funds.
Babydog is an English Bulldog and these adorable pups are known for their gentle, lovable, and slightly stubborn personalities. They’re often described as calm and friendly, with a laid-back demeanor that makes them excellent companions for families and individuals alike. Bulldogs are famously affectionate and love lounging around with their people, happily curling up for a nap or a snuggle. She gets our vote!
Who is Babydog?
According to her Wikipedia page, Babydog was a gift to Jim Justice from his children in 2019. According to Justice, she got her name as a puppy after Justice would ask "where did that baby dog go?", and the name stuck. Justice has described Babydog as a "little rascal who looks like a brown watermelon that loves everybody". She loves chicken nuggets from Wendy's and hates celery.
In February 2024, Babydog successfully underwent ligament surgery.
In 2023, a waterfall in Babcock State Park was renamed to "Babydog Falls" in her honor.
