Golden Retriever Friends' Sweet Reunion After a Year Apart Gives Hallmark Movie Vibes

This is so sweet!

Making friends as a dog means you might not see them for awhile, if ever again. Maybe they forget all about that bestie, but maybe they secretly hope to see them again. One Golden Retriever was recently surprised by a long-awaited reunion with a friend he hadn't played with in a whole year and it's the most tender, pure moment caught on camera.

The moment the two pups recognized each other, you can see the joy in their expressions and blissful movements. Watch as these little cuties all but "hug it out," as they're reunited.

Dog BFFs are the best. It's like they never parted ways and have spent each day doing all the fun doggy things together. Their elation is palpable, which is probably why more than 17k people are loving the November 10 TikTok clip shared by @a_golden_fam! These are the kinds of heartwarming moments that cement why dogs are so great and the account's 4.7 million followers agree!

Among those emotionally affected by the Goldens, most are just sitting back saying, "awww!"

"So cute. Look how happy they are!!" one person wrote. "Aww. They remember each other after a whole year!" another added. "Heartwarming," another said.

The scene is everything a dog reunion should be. We hope they don't let another year go by without seeing each other again.

Do Dogs Remember Their Friends?

In watching the clip of the Goldens, it certainly seems like the two remember their past good times together. There are a lot of pieces on the web that allude to the fact that dogs do recognize each other, even having a preference to former littermates and remembering them. Though, it's not the same as how humans do.

PetMD notes various studies that conclude dogs have episodic short term memory of about two minutes which means they can, to some degree, remember things like training and imitation with people. Even things they don't practice regularly stay with them for up to 10 years.

Their memories, however, are tied to the act that surrounds the event. Like if you grab your keys, they remember you're leaving in the car or if it's a leash, they get a walk. They don't retain the other exact memories of car rides or walks, though, just the feelings that came from it. They learn to anticipate what's to come more than remember it from last time.

Dogs are taking everything in making the best of every moment. They might not remember all the details of those memories, but their capacity to remember how it made them feel is pretty good.

The bottom line? The reunited Golden Retrievers remember they had fun together, even if that's all they've retained. Besties for life!
