Golden Retriever Welcomes Dad Home After 3-Month Deployment and His Joy Is Contagious
If you’ve ever left your beloved 4-legged friend for a few days or more, you know how agonizing it can be. Even if our dogs know we always come back to them, saying goodbye once again is incredibly challenging. Sometimes, the only thing that keeps us going is thinking about the greeting we will receive on our return.
This beautiful Golden Retriever didn’t hold back his enthusiasm when he finally spotted his dad after three months away. His happy, heartfelt whimpers are likely to bring tears to your eyes.
Watch this sweet reunion in a video shared on October 10:
It’s hard for me to leave home for three days, so it’s even more difficult to fathom the resilience of our brave service members who leave their families and beloved pets for months or a year at a time. Colonel has experienced his dad’s deployment before, but this time, his mom, Alyssa (@alyssajoygreene), is expecting triplets, so he had even more responsibility around the house. Unsurprisingly, this Golden Retriever lived up to his name and reported for duty as the man of the house while Jon was protecting our country. Now that his best friend is home, this good boy can relax and play more. His sweet squeals of excitement were the sincerest expressions of love, and it’s an ideal example of why dogs are regarded as man’s best friends.
Ways to Help United States Service Members and Their Pets
While Colonel has a loving mom to care for him when Dad is gone, not all service members have someone to watch their cherished pets while they are deployed. That’s why organizations like Dogs on Deployment and PACT For Animals work tirelessly to place these four-legged family members in the ideal temporary foster home until they can be reunited with their devoted parents. As you might imagine, this can provide peace of mind to service members, knowing that their animals are safe and loved while they are away. If you are interested in helping those who sacrifice so much for us, both organizations are accepting applications from foster families who are willing to open their homes and hearts.
