Golden Retriever Lab Mix Shows Sweetest Gratitude to Sisters Who Rescued Her From Road
It's heartbreaking to find a tray dog in dire need of help—particularly if they're a new mom, or wounded in some way. Such was the case for a young Golden Retriever Labrador mix named Greeter found on the side of the road. She needed a hero, and she needed one fast.
Enter said hero: A June 17, 2024 TikTok video shared by singer/songwriter Leni (@leniblackmusic) shows the amazing moment she and her sister found Greeter and gave her the life of her dreams. Watch the video below!
With the words, "My sister and I were driving and saw this sweet girl running with her eyes barely open on the road," written at the start of the clip, we see the distressed 16-month-old Golden in the backseat of a car. "She came right up to us when we pulled over and put her head in our legs," the writing continues, adding the sisters drove to the vet where it was discovered Greeter had given birth in the prior week-and-a-half and also had a a BB gun pellet wound where she was lactating.
The video cuts to the new momma lying on the vet room floor while receiving care, then off to her new home with the sisters who added they discovered the owners sadly did not want Greeter back.
Through the remainder of the video, Greeter gets plenty of love and pets—as well as much needed food, water, and medication to help her feel better. The next few shots show the Golden mix relaxing in her new home with her new family, playing with toys, and going on walks.
"Over the last three weeks, we've made her our priority and she's making such amazing progress. She's such a gift and we plan on cherishing her forever," the clip concludes.
The heartwarming story has captured all of social media with many supporting the rescue and wishing them well.
"I'm so happy she found you. I hope her puppies had the same luck," one person wrote. "How could anyone not want that sweet baby???" another said. "That sweet baby…I can’t imagine what she’s been through. Thank god for y’all," another added.
What To Do If You Find a Stray Dog
It's hard to know exactly what to do if you come across a stray dog, but the animal welfare organization Maddie's Fund says there are a few steps you can follow. First, search your home area thoroughly. It may seem obvious, but typically pets don't go far. Get permission to search neighbor's property, too, as they may take refuge in nearby areas.
Next, recruit volunteers to help you search neighborhoods, shelters, etc. You can't be everywhere at once, and this helps expedite the process. Simultaneously cross posting on social media while also making neon posters to hang are free and will get the word out faster.
Lastly, contact the pros. There are many lost pet recovery services such as Missing Animal Response Network's (MARN) Pet Detective Directory who are trained in tracking missing pets.
Not every dog is lucky enough to find their hero, but it only takes one person willing to help. Thankfully Greeter found just that in the knick of time.
