Golden Retriever Puppy’s After-Bath Face Takes 'Pitiful' to Comedic Heights
Some dogs love bath time because it's their chance to play in water or just spend time with their "pawrents." Others, like Golden Retriever, Boots, is not a fan of any of it. Like, at all. In fact, she feels downright betrayed that her favorite person would put her through something as awful as getting clean!
Boots is a mood, no doubt. Take a look at the sweet pup who wants to make it very clear she's a sad, sad girl for having gone through that!
Though the November 13 clip is only 9 seconds long, the pain of having gone through such a pleasant, soothing bath time will last forever. All jokes aside, little Boots (@bootsiethegolden) has quite the flair for dramatics! This little gal is as adorable as it gets whether she's playing with Mom or trying to make friends with the house cat. One look at her little face and it'd be hard to resist giving her the world!
This little one is a big hit on the web already with more than 23k TikTok followers watching her every move. Even if she's not the happiest pup after her bath, she still has people everywhere rooting for her (including me)!
How to Set Puppies Up For Bath Time Success
Clearly Boots isn't going to root for getting clean. It can happen from bad experiences, not being familiar with the process, the loss of control, or because it just feels like a stressful event. If you're going through it with your pup, it doesn't have to be that way. According to The American Kennel Club, there are a few things you can do to help your puppy love bath time, and it begins with preparation.
First, determine what kind of coat your pup has so you know which type of dog shampoo to use. Have plenty of treats nearby so they can begin to associate everything that happens with a bath as something positive. Also be ready to offer as many cuddles and praise as you can muster! This is important because they will remember how the event made them feel more than the bath itself.
Begin with lukewarm water and a washcloth. If you have a young puppy, no need for shampoo or conditioner just yet and bathe them this way until they're around 3-4 months old. After that, when they're used to baths, incorporate those. Be very gentle and avoid open places on the face like eyes (obviously!). Rinse throughly and blow dry, again with praise and treats.
Maintain this routine so they become familiar with the process to eliminate the fear of the unknown. If you plan to take them to a groomer where they can clip the fur and nails, just be consistent.
Boots will probably grow out of her hatred of baths someday, but for now, she's just so cute looking so sad!
