Golden Retriever Puppy Attempting To Play with 15-Year-Old Cat Brother Is So Wholesome
These two are so adorable.
There’s something so special about watching a relationship develop between two pets, especially if they are different species. Most animals can totally get along if you introduce them carefully, including cats and dogs. Especially if one of the animals is older than the other one- this can sometimes result in the older animal finding the younger one less threatening and more easily making friends with them.
That’s pretty much the case with this precious 8-week-old Golden Retriever puppy getting to know the 15-year-old senior Tabby cat in the house, and attempting to play with him. It’s just so adorable.
The precious video of these two buddies was shared by the TikTok account for @The_goldendonut and people can’t get enough of this blossoming friendship.
One person commented, “You’re not helping my Golden puppy fever!” Another person added, “I love the way he crawled under the puppy bowl!”
We had a very similar situation in our home except it was with a tiny, stray kitten and our Pomeranian dog.
We agreed to take in the tiny Calico kitten after her mama or siblings couldn’t be found and from the moment she met our dog she was his kitten. He’d cry if she was in a room with a closed door, sleep with her, follow her around the house and lick her constantly. They still play together and nap together and it’s just as if these two pals were meant to be. He’s always tolerated the other cats in our home but she will forever be his kitten.
How To Introduce Your Cat to a Puppy

One of the very first steps to take is scent-swapping. Have your puppy sleep with a blanket or old t-shirt and your cat do the same, or rub the cloth against the fur of each animal and then place the cloth or blanket where the other animal sleeps. This is a non-threatening way for your pets to get used to each other.
Make introductions slowly, and have plenty of treats on hand. Reward them with treats and praise if they interact in a non-aggressive fashion. If either animal seems stressed or upset or there is hissing or excessive barking involved try again another day. It’s also a good idea to make sure each pet has a safe space to retreat to if they become overwhelmed or frightened.
Never rush your pets or force them to interact and keep safety a priority.
Before you know it, your fur baby may have their very own fur baby!
