Golden Retriever Puppy Hilariously Takes Over Mom's Bath Time with Exactly Zero Regrets

There's no privacy with a new pup.

There are a million reasons why life with a new puppy is equal parts hectic and fun. Mostly, it's because they have an intense amount of energy they want to burn off and have zero experience with the world. That combo can make things interesting, and if you have a Golden Retriever puppy, chances are you'll have at least one funny story about them and water.

One dog mom certainly has a good story after her Golden Retriever puppy, Murphy, usurped her bath time with no regrets. The video is absolutely adorable and will put a big smile on your face.

On November 19, 2024, social media user Belle and Murphy (@belleandpurphy), an account that follows the fun adventures of Murphy, a Golden Retriever puppy, shared a really funny clip of the time he decided to steal his mom's bath with no regrets.

In a split second, when Mom stepped away to prepare for her shower, the silly puppy decided it was time for him to jump in first. While she was putting her clothes in the laundry, he was enjoying the water.

When she returned, of course, she got the heart swoons from Murphy draped over the edge of the tub, now soaking wet and wondering why the bathtub wasn't full of water.

In the comment section, viewers shared how much this video brightened their day, and others shared similar stories.

One wrote, "He obviously thought the shower was turned on for him!" and another added, "My guy did this once. I couldn't stop cracking up!" Someone else shared," He’s like 'mistakes were made mom, HALP,'" and one social media user wrote, "Murphy thought you were giving him a bath."

Golden Retrievers Are Drawn to Be Near and in Water

After watching this video, Murphy seems to really like the water, even if he's not exactly sure why. The reason, it seems, is tied to his genetics, as Golden Retrievers typically love to be in water.

According to Dogster, Golden Retrievers have "a deeply inherited love of water and will try to get in it whenever they can."

The reason stems from their history of being "built to retrieve waterfowl for hours on end," the American Kennel Club notes. Because of that, "swimming and fetching are natural pastimes" for this breed.

Dogster reiterates this, noting that "most Golden Retrievers will dive straight into the water to go for a swim," but even if that is instinctual, water safety should be an early priority for a pup. And not all Golden puppies like the water, at least at first.

"There are some Goldens that don’t like getting wet. This doesn’t mean something is wrong with these dogs. It just means they don’t like water as much as their breed suggests," the site explains.

"Some Golden puppies dislike water when they’re young and grow to love it as they get older. Sometimes, it just takes time for them to learn what they like."

Other Goldens might jump into the water--or shower--even if they don't fully understand why or necessarily enjoy it at first. But we're betting Murphy will probably steal his mom's shower time again.
