Golden Retriever Can't Resist the Lure of Chips and Salsa and Everyone's Feeling Him

Everyone totally gets it!

A Golden Retriever pup has his eyes on a snack that's not his, but he finds it impossible to ignore being lured to the chips and salsa.

On April 9, 2024, TikTok user Pup O'Joe (@pup.o.joe) shared a video of Joey, a Golden Retriever, who has a particular food craving he can't control. Take a look!

In the 40-second video, we meet Joey, a beautiful Golden Retriever, who has his eyes fixated on a table.

It looks like Joey and his human are out for a walk. As they pass by an outdoor restaurant, something on one of the tables catches Joey's attention.

When the camera pans to the table, you can see that he's looking at a dish of food at the table.

But it's not something you would think would grab a dog's attention. It's not a hamburger or a steak. It's not even a pasta dish. It's salsa and chips.

Joey wants the salsa and chips so badly he refuses to move from the spot. Even after a gentle nudge with the lead, he's not budging. And he holds his ground!

"When the chips and salsa come out, and all self-control goes out the window," the video's caption reads. And people had a lot to say in the comment section.

"Are you still there? Joey doesn’t look like he will give up on them," one commenter said.

Another wrote, "Joey doesn't share food," a funny nod to the TV show Friends.

"Bro stood, stayed, sat, and laid on business. He ain't movin'," another joked.

Should You Let Your Dog Eat People Food?

It can be so hard to say "no" to your dog when they're begging to try the food you are eating or when they see something someone else is enjoying and put on their puppy eyes to try and get a bite. But it's really important to understand that not all human food is safe for dogs.

According to the American Kennel Club, not all foods we eat and consider healthy are safe for dogs.

"Many of the foods, such as fruits and vegetables, that people digest just fine can wreak havoc on a dog’s body, causing severe health problems," they warn.

"On the other hand, some of the foods people eat can be introduced to a dog’s diet just fine and even provide health benefits such as joint strength, better breath, and allergy immunity."

If you don't know what food is safe for your dog to eat and what's not, the best action plan is to assume they can't until you check in with your veterinarian.

For example, the American Kennel Club writes that dogs can safely eat cashews but should never eat almonds. They can also eat small amounts of cheese but should never be given chocolate.

"Always be mindful that even healthy foods fed in excess can lead to canine obesity, a major health concern for U.S. dogs," the organization warns. "Always choose a quality dog food as your dog’s main diet."
