Golden Retriever’s Dramatic Bedtime Routine Could Win an Oscar

He's such a character!

Dogs can turn even the most simple events into a total production. For instance, some will refuse to go outside to do their business in the rain, causing it to take five times longer than usual. Others might perform theatrics during a walk, falling to the ground and refusing to proceed.

Many dogs even have a specific bedtime routine, and no one gets to sleep until they are comfortable. However, one Golden Retriever goes all out when it’s time to make the long, arduous journey to bed.

Check out this video from April 17 to see the drama unfolding.

This good boy is just too much! Bentley’s (@goldenbenjamin) parents explain he would prefer his parents to sleep downstairs on the couch at night so that he didn’t have to take the treacherous trip to the bedroom upstairs. Ha! Even though he knows it’s time to head up, he has to wait for the lights to go out first. Once he realizes he’s about to be left behind, he leaves the comfort of the couch and begins the trek. First, he stands at the bottom of the stairs to gather his energy. Then, once he completes this unwanted exercise, he saunters to the bedroom. LOL! Finally, when he arrives at the bed, he must climb a few more steps before he can close his eyes peacefully for the night. OMG! He is such a character!

Do Dogs Dislike Stairs?

While an older dog might have conditions like arthritis that make stairs hard or frightening to climb, this silly guy is not old or aching. In the comments, his parents share that this 2-year-old runs up and down them throughout the day, so he has no issue using them. The only reason this show exists is because he gets sleepy at night. When tired, my 3-year-old, high-energy dog turns the short distance (no stairs) from couch to bedroom into a seemingly endless journey. But that’s if he stays up long enough to fall asleep on the sofa, as he frequently puts himself to bed without us.

This situation is something dog lovers know well. Viewer @lifeofsterlingnewton remarked, “It’s like climbing a mountain. They need to get us doggie elevators, lol.” Ha! It’s a tough life, for sure. Viewer @harlow_thegolden kidded, “It’s a long road, uphill both ways.” In the snow… Viewer @daisythegoldiee responded, “Sigh, they make you climb mountains to go to bed.” It’s hard to believe these parents could be so unthoughtful.

Thankfully, Bentley has no trouble dozing off again after completing the long, challenging trip to bed. Those last few steps really help sleep arrive quickly.
