Golden Retrievers Playing in the Water Give New Meaning to the Term ‘Muddy Buddies'

They are loving every minute.

Some dogs were just born to play in the water. It doesn't matter if it's the ocean or lake, a sprinkler, or a pool; they're happy to jump in and cool off. Unfortunately, this also means it doesn't matter if it's clean or dirty. And it often seems the more muddy it is, the more they like it.

That case could easily be made for these two gorgeous Goldens. Undoubtedly, they had their mom cleaning up this mess for some time!

See what they got into in this video from May 14:

Getting these two cleaned up is going to be quite a task! They can't resist getting their beautiful white fur faces covered in the brown, muddy water. Oh my! Thankfully, for Hubert and Albert (@hubertthegoldenretriever), their mom has a great sense of humor. She describes her boy's day in the mud as a spa day with facials. Ha! That's a positive way to look at it. And while it may be a lot of work to bathe them after this, they undoubtedly are having the time of their lives, which is what we all want for our beloved four-leg children.

Why Do Dogs Love Mud?

According to Canine Journal, dogs love playing in mud because it's in their DNA. Some experts believe dogs do this instinctively to mask their scent from potential predators, something they would've done when they lived on their own. It's also possible that they are not fond of their current scent and are trying to change how they smell. It's also likely that it helps to cool them off, but more than anything, it's just good old-fashioned fun! And our pups are experts at having a good time wherever they go. While it's challenging to keep our pups away from puddles, especially during the rainy season, it may be best to keep them on a leash to avoid this dirty water, especially on days when you don't have time to clean them up.

These merry boys entertained pet parents. One viewer pointed out, "They are so naughty, you must spend most of your time hosing them down. Retrievers love to be muddy and smelly… keeping all intruders away." LOL! That's an excellent point. They don't have to be ferocious watchdogs to be effective. Viewer @imthegoldendevil remarked, "Gotta love those mud masks." They know what's trendy and how to get a deal.

Luckily for these two gorgeous Goldens, their happiness is the most important thing to their mom. Even if that means she'll spend most of the summer cleaning them up.
