Pet Parent's See-Through ‘Bedroom’ for His Hamster Proves Money Can Buy Happiness

Every hamster-haver needs this.

Hamsters are pretty easy to please. As long as they have the space that they need and some food, water, and toys, they're good to go and can live anywhere from 1-3 years. Do they need the fancy fun stuff? No, not really.

It makes our human hearts happy, though, as we can clearly tell from this video:

It seems that @mewhomeslice's hamster is definitely perfectly well-cared for. How cute is this?

The actual hamster bedroom part is fairly simple, and you can make it yourself at home: you just need some hamster-safe wood. Glue three pieces together and stick it at the bottom of your hamster's enclosure and you're good to go. Alternatively, you could make one out of cardboard, though it won't be as sturdy.

If you want to increase the chances of your hamster using their bedroom, try to train them to go in there using their favorite treats. They might just fill it with bedding and move on, but it's worth a try!

Given that hamsters are nocturnal, we day-shift hamster owners really don't see much of our furry friends. They might get up to get some water or have a snack, but they won't play. Having a peeping hole is the best way to ensure you get a bit of a glimpse at your hamster during the day.

Why not take this one step further? If your enclosure permits, you could use wood to create several levels in there, which would be great for enrichment, too! Whatever you do, make sure you use safe, untreated wood, including:

  • Pine
  • Spruce
  • Poplar

Never use wood that's been chemically treated with anything, and steer clear of MDF/particle boards and other manmade wood substitutes. Stick with natural woods that have been properly dried, and happy hamster peeping!
