Husky & Golden Retriever Show Off Their On-Point Selfie Skills Like Total Pros

That's a real trick.

There's a real challenge that comes with trying to take cute pictures of your dog. First of all, it's a miracle if you get them to stay still, sitting or standing in one place (bonus points if it happens to be the place you wanted them to be in for the photo, which is a totally different hurdle to cross). Then, there's the matter of looking at the camera, and hopefully giving you an expression on their face that doesn't make it appear that you're a mean stage parent behind the camera, forcing them into the perfect pose against their will.

And if you want them to take a cute selfie with you? Forget about it! Some might be naturally blessed with this skill, but many others would rather not pose with you. Unless, of course, you train them to do so... and from the results we can see in the TikTok video below, this Husky and Golden Retriever duo seem to have learned from the best.

On Tuesday, October 22, @imbluethesiberiann shared this video of her Husky pup (whose name is Blue) and Golden Retriever (whose name is Maverick) showing off their latest accomplishment. Now that her Golden is big enough, they are able to do a "selfie" trick.

Basically, all she has to do is call the dogs over and say "selfie!" Like the good boy he is, Maverick comes running over, puts his paws around his big brother's neck, and perfectly rests his head on top of Blue's. Then, they stay still for their picture.

This has to be magic, because are you kidding me?! These two are too cute like this, and they're so smart to be able to learn a trick like this, too. It probably makes their mom so happy every time they do this (not to mention more than 100,000 people on TikTok who have liked this video so far).

How to Teach Your Dog the "Selfie" Command

Hoping your dog will pick up on this skill too? There are a few different approaches when it comes to teaching the "selfie" command, but this YouTube tutorial from a dog mom spells it all out really easily in a video. In this case, she's teaching her dog to lean their head on her shoulder, but you could do it with another dog, the way Blue and Maverick can.

First, she holds a treat just over her shoulder, where her dog will see it. At first, give them a treat for putting their head over your shoulder, next, you'll want to reward them only when they rest their head there.

Next, you'll keep doing what you're doing, but add in the word "selfie" to tie it to the action they're doing and being rewarded for. Once they've gotten that down, only use the word, not the motion of putting your hand with the treat near your shoulder, until they peek over your shoulder every time you say "selfie!"

With enough practice, your dog will be taking selfies like an influencer before you know it. And if not... well, at least you can take plenty of adorable pictures of them.
