List of Top 5 'Most-Searched-For' Dogs of 2024 Includes a Surprising Winner
A new list of the top five "most-searched-for" dogs was released, and the 2024 winner is a true surprise.
The new list of dog breeds that are the "most-searched-for" comes from research conducted by Open Study College, and the results are interesting. Take a look!

To find out the "most searched for" dogs, Open Study College analyzed Google search terms for the most popular dog breeds in the UK from October 2023 to September 2024.
The research team sorted through all the data and compiled the list of the most searched-for dogs, and the winning breed was surprising.
The results show that the Cocker Spaniel is the most searched-for breed, with a monthly search volume in the UK of 49,930. This is surprising because we would have assumed that the dog breed that landed in the second spot would have taken home the win.
The Golden Retriever is second among the most searched-for dogs in 2024. Given its popularity, we would have assumed it would be in the top spot. The Golden Retriever was pretty close to taking home the win in this study, with a monthly search volume of 46,880.
This year, for the American Kennel Club's most popular dog breeds of 2023 list, the Golden Retriever beat out the popularity of the Cocker Spaniel, taking home the third spot compared to the Cocker Spaniel's 30th place.
The year prior was similar with the Golden Retriever in third and the Cocker Spaniel in 29th place; and that was the same for 2021 as well.

But there's nothing wrong with the Cocker Spaniel winning for the most searched-for dog breed! They have many similarities to the Golden Retriever, and both breeds are great with families, easy to get along with, and affectionate, so it totally makes sense.
"The merry and frolicsome Cocker Spaniel, with his big, dreamy eyes and impish personality, is one of the world's best-loved breeds," the American Kennel Club explains.
These Are the Most 'Searched-for' Dog Breeds
- Cocker Spaniel (49,930)
- Golden Retriever (46,880)
- Rottweiler (46,420)
- Dachshund (40,320)
- German Shepherd (39,750)
The team at Open Study College didn't go into detail on why the dog breeds included in the "most-searched-for dog breeds" complete list. But they are all dog breeds we often find on the lists for the most affectionate or good with families.
In third place is the Rottweiler, which the American Kennel Club notes as being very affectionate with family.
The Dachshund and German Shepherd round out the give most-searched-for dogs of 2024. And they're both pups that are described as being really affectionate, great with family, and generally really easy to get along with.
