Pit Bull Lost for Months in New York City Reunites with Family in Divinely-Timed Encounter
This story begins with every pet parent’s worst nightmare. Imagine going away on vacation and entrusting a friend to watch your beloved dog, only to have them run away, never to be seen again. It’s a heartbreaking scenario to even consider.
Although this family may have eventually come to terms with their loss, they soon learned their time with their beloved dog wasn’t over. Check out this video from May 31 to see this inspiring story of perfect timing and hope.
My goodness! What a story this dog must have to tell. The @nycacc reports that she had been in their care for about a month after being found tied to a pole. When no one came to claim her, she was brought to an adoption event, where she was overlooked. While it may be unfortunate to think that she would have to return to the shelter, it was a divine turn of fate that brought her back to our original family.
After months of unsuccessfully trying to locate their dog, this family was looking for a new pup and happened to be at the same event. What are the chances? She caught her mother’s eye when she was initially spotted, but as we can imagine, it must’ve seemed too hard to believe it was their dog, Mocha. However, once they met her, they knew it was their girl. This family was elated to see her, and Mocha was equally excited to see them. She wiggled and squiggled and kissed them uncontrollably. Besides these apparent signs of familiarity, the family could provide photos to show that this was indeed their dog. And so, while she may not have been “adopted” on this day, she was taken home to the place where she belonged.
Ways To Get a Lost Dog Home
1. Have your dog microchipped. This can help shelters, veterinarians, and rescue organizations locate pet parents in the event a dog goes missing. The chip is implanted between the dog’s shoulder blades and cannot be lost or removed if stolen.
2. Use a sturdy collar and name tag. Customized tags can include your address and phone number, so should your dog get lost, a stranger can help get them home.
3. Post photo flyers in public places and send emails to local rescues and shelters. Provide a description of your dog, including their size, temperament, and any unique markings, to help distinguish your lost pet from others.
Thankfully, this story had an incredibly happy ending. Although months without her must’ve been difficult, this family now has many joyful days ahead that everyone will undoubtedly appreciate even more.
