Time-Lapse Video of Day-Old Maine Coon Kitten Growing Up Is Awe-Inspiring
Having the chance to raise a kitten from birth can be such a magical thing, but at the same time, it can also be a bit heartbreaking. Seeing them born and watching how quickly they change and grow up can really pull at anyone's heartstrings, even though you're glad they're getting bigger and stronger every day. I adopted each of my rescue kitties at around 8 weeks old, so I never had the chance to see what they looked like as newborns, and I really wish I could have!
But for a peek at what seeing a kitten grow up from birth would look like, we have this adorable TikTok video: A time lapse of a kitten starting from the time he is one day old.
As @furryfritz explained in her caption, this little Maine Coon kitten's name is Quill, and he lived with them for 100 days while he waited to go to his forever home. During that time, they organized 20 photoshoots, which allowed us to see this amazing time lapse video of Quill growing up!
It's pretty wild (and adorable) to see how quickly this kitty changes — even from day to day, he looks a little different. And by the end, he looks so much more grown up.
It must have been hard for his foster parents to say goodbye when he went to join his new family after being with him since day one, but Quill's brothers, Quentin and Quaid, are still with her, and she'll be sharing their time lapse videos soon, too.
How Fast Do Kittens Grow?
The first few weeks of a kittens' life are full of developments: This Is when they learn to open their eyes and listen with their ears, though that usually doesn't happen until they're a week old. After that, they start walking, learning to use the litter box, and start getting ready to explore their surroundings, and it's a lot of fun to watch them do this.
And like we saw in this video, they grow very quickly in size! Kittens reach 75% of their adult size by the time they're six months old, and they will typically weigh their age in months as they grow, so by the time they reach a month old, they'll be about one pound. Gaining one pound a month doesn't sound like much, but watching it happen every day is pretty cool.
My fingers are crossed that we'll get to see Quentin and Quaid's time lapse videos soon, too. I can't wait to see if they look just like their brother.
