Maine Coon Called the 'Buddha of Cats' for His Funny Way of Sitting

He's just too cute!

An orange Maine Coon named Teddy has been given the nickname "Buddha of Cats" because of the strange, unique way he likes to sit.

On May 15, 2024, TikTok user Teddy with Thumbs (@teddywiththumbs) shared a video of the funny way he likes to sit and how it is very different from other cats. Take a look!

In a short 10-second video, we meet Teddy, an orange Maine Coon, who has thumbs and a really weird way of sitting down.

The video starts with a beautiful grey Maine Coon who is sitting like a typical cat. He's upright with his front paws in front of him and his back paws low and behind him. His long, fluffy tail is curled around the side, and he's sitting with his chest puffed out.

Then the video cuts to Teddy, who has the nickname "Buddha of Cats" because he does not sit the regal or regular way like the grey Maine Coon.

When the video cuts to Teddy, he's sitting like a person would be and not like a cat. He's sitting on his butt, with all four paws in front of him, like a human would be sitting on a chair. His full, fluffy belly is completely exposed.

In the first look at this weird way to sit, Teddy's fluffy tail is also in front of him, and it might be one of the funniest ways we've seen a cat sit. He is clearly very happy and content and feels safe sitting like that.

In the second clip, he rests his paw on his belly and looks up at someone. This looks like what a person would do if he sat on the couch watching television.

"It's downright uncouth," the video's caption reads. In the comments, people thought this was hilarious and weird, too.

"He’s the Buddha of cats," one person declares.

"I absolutely love Teddy with thumbs," someone else wrote.

"Gotta air it out," joked another.

Another viewer shared: "Def an orange cat thing. My orange boy was always sitting that way."

Fun Facts About Maine Coon's Personality

We all know that Maine Coons are loved for their giant size and really fluffy tails. But their personality is a big reason these cats are so popular.

According to PetPlan, Maine Coons have a lot of traits we typically associate with dogs. "One of the key Maine Coon cat personality traits is loyalty – they will often attach themselves to one person like a dog," the site explains. "While they’re not generally a lapcat, they’re friendly, tactile, and affectionate."

These cats are also really chatty. They have a "broad range of vocalizations, and they’ll happily chat to you about their day or call you when they want a bit of attention."

Spruce Pets also compares the Maine Coon's disposition to a dog, adding that they are "intelligent, friendly, and gentle."

Maine Coons are also really chill, and they "tend to take everything in stride," Spruce Pets says. "They can usually coexist peacefully with other household pets, including other cats and cat-friendly dogs."
