Polite Golden Retriever Has Sweetest Way of Asking For More Pets Like Gentleman He Is
If dogs had their way, everyone would stop what they're doing and pet them until they're told to stop, which is never. Although that sounds like the perfect way to spend time, it's not exactly possible to pet indefinitely. Duke the Golden Retriever believes in all the pets. They should never end, which is why he's learned to very nicely ask for more again and again.
Sweet Duke's gesture was posted on TikTok by @thegoldenpupduke, and it's honestly a dose of pure sunshine. He's just so polite! Watch him ask for more love in the nicest way ever!
In the 18-second clip that says, "Our Golden Retriever when he stops getting pets," Duke is enjoying some affection from his people, when all of a sudden, they stop. How could they? Do they not know to keep going forevermore? It's okay though because Duke activates his amazing pup powers by putting a soft paw in Dad's direction so he knows to keep going.
After a few more pets, it happens again! This time, it take Duke a moment to understand because he only just asked them not to stop. He offers his paw again to remind them that this is not a hobby, it's a full-time job and someone's gotta do it!
"The paw," the caption says perfectly.
This Golden's special ways
"You'd better keep it up, Dad!" one person wrote. "The pause it what did it for me," another noted. "Duke: Hello, did I say stop???" another joked.
This smart boy is going places, that's for sure!
Dogs Paw for a Variety of Reasons
Duke's intentions were clear with his pawing. PetMD indicates there are a few reasons dogs paw at us, depending on the situation. The most obvious is it's an instinctive communication tool they learn as puppies. Once they figure out pawing at you gets them the thing they wanted, they'll keep doing it.
And though attention is another top reason, sometimes, pawing can mean they're hungry, it's time to go potty, they're feeling anxiety, or they're just showing their love. If it's an attention thing, providing them with interactive toys or a Kong may help.
Not all dogs use the paw to express what they're feeling, so think of it like a blessing that they're trying to communicate exactly what they need from you. The trick is figuring out what that is. If your Duke's parents, that'll be a breeze (pets, always pets)!
