Rescued Greyhound vs. Mischievous Moving Crab Toy Is the Definition of a Dramatic Showdown

It's a battle of epic proportions!

If my dog wasn't a total toy destroyer, I would have a bad habit of buying her way too many toys. When she was a puppy, it was my favorite hobby, but when she got big and strong enough to tear anything I handed her apart within minutes just a few short months later, we became a Kong-only family. However, I still get a lot of joy out of seeing other dogs enjoy their toys in funny videos on the internet, and this one is definitely an experience!

There has been one popular toy making the rounds recently: A plastic crab that crawls around and gets all kinds of hilarious reactions from the dogs who try to play with it. The Greyhound in the Instagram Reel below is no exception — in fact, I'm pretty sure he thinks it's real, even if he has no real concept of what a crab even is.

Recently, @diva.and.bohemond shared this video of their Greyhound pup, Diva, coming face to face with this viral crab toy for the very first time... and let's say I would definitely let this dog be my own personal bodyguard after seeing this!

When the crab first starts moving, Diva remains calm, assessing the situation and biding her time. But the second she determines she's ready to make her move, this dog springs into action. She's not messing around.

She's all growls, and gets so worked up that she even messes up all of the covers on the bed in her pursuit to attack that crab. It's safe to say that Diva won this round.

I'm pretty sure she was happy to have this kind of playtime, though, judging by how fast her tail was wagging the whole time!

Why Do Dogs Attack Their Toys?

If you've seen your dog go into attack mode at one (or more) of their toys the way that Diva did in this video, rest assured that you're in good company; this kind of play is very common and normal in dogs.

As Chewy points out, not only is this kind of activity fun, but it's also fulfilling your dog's prey drive — something that Greyhounds like Diva likely have plenty of!

Fighting with their toys is plenty healthy, but actually destroying them isn't a behavior you should allow to continue, since different parts of the toys can get lose, and if your pup gets hurt or swallows them, it not only can bring on a huge vet bill, but can also be extremely dangerous to their health, too.

If that is the behavior you're observing, you may have to switch to Kongs like I did... but either way, my dog still has plenty of fun and yours will too!
