Cockatoos find themselves needing to be rescued often, unfortunately. They’re a much larger commitment than people realize, which leads to them needing to be re-homed. It stinks, but it’s just how the world works. All we can do is help birds in need find loving homes.

Sometimes, those birds simply choose their own homes. For example, on Friday, June 13th, a couple of Goffins Cockatoos decided that their favorite volunteer needs to take them home now. To let him know, they decided to stare directly into his eyes:

Unfortunately, @blueplanetpets could not just take these two birds home. It’s more complicated than that, plus he has other pets at home to care for! They’ll definitely find a home that’s right for them, but until then, at least they’ll get to see him often!

These two Goffins Cockatoos are named Pookie and Casper, and they’re currently awaiting adoption at the Parrot Outreach Society Rescue in Punta Gorda, Florida. The two of them are a bonded pair, so they live together and must be adopted out together.

At this time, POSR is only adopting their birds out to people in the state of Florida, but if you live there and these babies are calling to you, you can go and meet them! There is an adoption process that’s a bit lengthy, but it’s worth it for a forever feathered friend!

After he got some heat for not being able to take birds who have chosen him, Zeb even did a walkthrough of the rescue. They’ve got some amazing birds:

Goffins Cockatoos are smaller and a little bit less fluffy than your standard Umbrella or Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo, and Goffins are often regarded as the “calmest” of the Cockatoo species. If you’re just getting started with caring for Cockatoos, these sweet birds might be right for you!

Even still, they’re needy: they love human interaction and require just as much hand taming/training as a “regular” Cockatoo would. All parrots require tons of love and care, and if they love you, they might just give you the stare-down of the century!
