Sphynx Cat’s Bath Time Swim Has Pet Parents Cracking Up
Sphynx cats are one of the most interesting animals in the world. If you've never felt one, odds are you've always really wanted to. Who wouldn't?
According to this TikTok from Monday, September 4th, sphynx cats also need baths, and they don't mind them:
I can't believe how adorable @reyasphynx's cat is. Sphynx cats have always been a little scary to me, but she's so cute and so dramatic for what?
Regular cats are covered in dense fur. It helps to protect their skin from the elements: it's a decently hard task to penetrate a kitty's thick coat. Dust, dirt, and even most bugs don't stand a chance. Normally, cats don't really need baths very often unless something happens. They're capable of grooming themselves.
Sphynx cats, however, are all skin. They don't have that protective barrier on their skin, and they're more susceptible to things getting on them and getting them dirty. Sphynx cats also are more likely to develop issues like eczema, acne, or skin cancer.
Many sphynx paren ts choose to bathe their sphynxes about once a week using just warm water and a special-formulated sensitive shampoo. Any shampoo you use on an animal should be animal-specific, but a sphynx cat usually requires special hypo-allergenic shampoo. It prevents rashes or eczema flare-ups.
Because of their frequent exposure to bath time, most sphynx cats actually don't mind it at all! As you can see from the video, her ears are up and she doesn't appear to be too stressed out. Bath time is normal to her, and she may even enjoy it. The shower cap, though kind of adorable, is the only thing that might stress Reya out if it stays on too long.
