St. Bernard's Reunion with Golden Retriever Brother After 30 Minutes Apart Is the Best

She hates to be without him!

A sweet St. Bernard feels lost without her brother, a Golden Retriever, and it's really cute to see her reaction when he gets home.

On February 25, 2024, TikTok user Kassy MacCallum (@maisie_n_cain) shared a video of her two dogs and their reaction when they're back together after being apart. Take a look!

In a minute-and-a-half-long video, a St. Bernard dog named Maisie has a brother, a Golden Retriever named Cain, and she's very attached to him.

"When your brother goes anywhere without you," the text on the screen reads as St. Bernard jumps around like she's lost, which is extra cute since she's missing a leg. Her mom can be heard on the video talking and trying to calm her down.

"It's OK, he will be home soon," she tells her pup. "It's OK."

Maisie just keeps looking at the front door like she's counting down the moments until Cain gets back home.

She's stressing for most of the video, walking up to the door. Fifteen minutes pass, and "she's still lost without him" and "trying to be patient."

Then, the mood changes when she can hear the door. "He's home," the text on the screen reads as Maisie jumps to the front door at record speed.

Cain runs into the house and says hello to his mom behind the camera. Running behind him is Maisie, who can't wait to play with her brother.

"Maisie is SO attached to Cain," the video's caption reads. And in the captions, people really loved Maisie's reaction.

"Beautiful sweetheart," one person wrote.

"Awww, so beautiful," another shared.

"Unconditional luvv," wrote someone else.

"Oh, I know that look in those beautiful browns," shared someone else. "Someone is in trouble for leaving without her. Gotta love the bonds our fur kids have together."

How to Help Your Dog With Separation Anxiety

It's really cute to see the bond between dog siblings, but separation anxiety can be something dogs struggle with. And there are some things you can do as a pet parent to help reduce that anxiety.

According to 24Petwatch, separation anxiety isn't uncommon in dogs, and it stems from them being social creatures.

"Dogs instinctively want to be around us 24/7," the site explains. And if they aren’t properly trained to understand that alone time is good and people always return, they learn to fear being left home without their family."

The organization explains separation anxiety as being "an extreme fear of being alone that’s triggered when a pet parent or caregiver leaves and the dog thinks they’ve been abandoned."

So how do you help?

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) states that leaving a special toy for your dog can help reduce their feelings of being left behind. "You can give your dog a long-lasting chew such as a stuffed 'kong' toy, a meat-flavored chew, or a treat ball when you plan to go out," they suggest that it's important that your dog uses that toy when you're gone if they don't, trying something else might be a good idea.

You can also make sure your dog gets energy out before you leave. Taking them on a walk and helping them relax when they get home can help, or if you'll be gone for a while, a dog sitter might help.

While these measures are probably easily implemented, the organization reminds dog parents never to punish their dogs for their anxiety and not to let them just "cry it out."
