As a ’90s kid, I was practically raised on Disney movies, and now, I’m raising my own daughter the same way — I know I’m not alone in this! Some of my favorite movies over the years have been the ones about animals, like Oliver & Company, 101 Dalmatians, and of course, The Aristocats. The animated movie, which was first released in 1970, is about a family of aristocratic cats meeting a street cat for the first time, including kittens raised by their mother, the gorgeous Duchess.
And while all the kittens in the movie are cute, Marie, the white kitten with the pink bow and big attitude, has always been the one who has stolen the show. She’s so beloved, and one cat mom is showing off her real life version of Marie in a new video.
When she posted the video, she was still trying to figure out if she wanted to name her Marie (and in the end, she did), but so many commenters were urging her to do it that she basically had no other choice!
Even the official Disney+ account commented on the post, writing, “Marie is the only correct option.” And they’re right!
What Breed Is Marie From Aristocats?
Marie the (real) kitten’s new mom hasn’t shared her breed just yet, but if you’re hoping for your own adorable kitten just like the one from the movie, you might be wondering what breed Marie the Aristocats cat belongs to.
According to Catster, Marie is a Turkish Angora cat. The breed is known for being friendly, so they make great family cats, and they are very playful, just like the animated cat is! And while Marie might be a bit sassier than Turkish Angoras typically are, you never know just how much personality your kitty is going to have!
Speaking of Marie, Catster also pointed out that she has her own holiday. Disney Japan has declared that February 22 is Marie Day, and who are any of us to argue with that? It’s not like anyone can say this gorgeous queen doesn’t deserve all the honors.
Marie the (real) kitten should celebrate on that day, too. It’s right around the corner!
