Here’s Why the Trump Family Never Had a Pet in the White House

Here's why Donald Trump isn't a cat or dog dad.

Childless cat ladies and immigrants accused of eating cats and dogs—such claims have made this election cycle feel both bizarrely fast and oddly prolonged. Former President Donald J. Trump and his running mate, J.D. Vance, have brought pets into the spotlight in unexpected ways, creating a bizarrely surreal focus on cats and dogs throughout the campaign.

With the election fast approaching, especially if you're a pet parent, you may have wondered why the former POTUS never had a cat or dog join them in the Presidential Palace.

Despite not being a dog dad himself, the former President has welcomed dogs into the white house, including the Westminster Best in Show winner seen above, and even donated to organizations that train service dogs

His daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, has helped with garnering legislation that prevents animal cruelty including the ban on Greyhound racing in Florida.

His daughter, Ivanka Trump, has a white Pomsky named Winter she often features on her social media.

So why no dogs for the former Apprentice host?

President Donald Trump is the only president in more than 100 years to not be a dog dad while living in the White House - and in 2019, he explained why.

Mr. Trump explained that the concept of adopting a dog is “phony” to him, and argued that his supporters will still like him despite not having a dog. He also said that he just doesn’t have the time to look after a pet.

“You do love your dogs, don’t you?” Mr Trump said to a cheering crowd, after a tangent about how German Shepherds have the superior ability to sniff drugs being smuggled into the country. “I wouldn’t mind having one, honestly, but I don’t have any time. How would I look walking a dog on the White House lawn?"

I think being able to admit that you don't have time to care for a dog, thus you won't adopt a dog, is a perfectly great choice to make. So many people sort of kid themselves into thinking they will make time to care for a dog and then they don't and then they end up re-homing the poor dog. It's better just to be honest with yourself.

No word on how Trump feels about cats, but due to his baseless claims that immigrants are snacking on them, we do have him to thank for this banger.

Happy almost election day!
