PAWZ Road Flamingo Cat Scratching Post ($23.99) at Walmart
This is the PAWZ Road Flamingo Cat Scratching Post, and it's the perfect picture of "simplicity is best." While this adorable post would typically run about $50, Walmart's Deal Days pricing has it down to just $23.99 - that's more than 50% off! For that price, you get:
- A lightweight scratching post you can move around easily.
- Two sisal rope scratchers (one post, one round) to promote healthy claws.
- One dangling pompom (and a replacement in the box).
- A stuffed flamingo head that they can sink their claws into.
- A place to perch.
- A second sisal stem and round.
While this tree, like many other PAWZ Road options, is marketed toward kittens, it also comes with options to make it taller for adult cats. The reviews come from a mixed pool of cat parents, with one even saying, "My cat is an old man and he loves this thing. It's sturdy and definitely worth the money." Senior cats and kittens are truly pretty similar: climbing can be hard for them, so having an easily accessible scratcher is paramount!
If you don't need it to be taller, the second stem can serve as a backup for when your crazy kitty eventually frays the first one. But, hey, better this $24 cat scratcher than your couch, right?
As far as this flamingo's favorite feature goes, cat parents seem to really love the squishy stuffed animal part that is the flamingo's head. It's really encouraging those hunter instincts, with one cat caretaker writing, "our cats jump on it, roll it around, bite the flamingo's head and neck, and scratch the post lots." It must be a little creepy to watch, but if they're having fun, it's worth it!
There's a bit of advice in the reviews, too. Cat lovers are saying that this would be great with a non-slip mat underneath and tucked in a corner to prevent toppling. Additionally, if you want to attach both stems for a taller flamingo, you'll need to purchase a couple double-sided screws, since the kit doesn't come with them. Other than that, it's just perfect - and super cute!
