VP Nominee Tim Walz's Rescue Dog Once Hilariously Locked Himself in a Bedroom

Typical dog behavior.

It's always so fun to read about the dogs and cats that belong to famous people like politicians. Especially when the dog or cat in question does something totally goofy like a lot of dogs and cats do.

That's why it's fun to look back at when Governor of Minnesota and now democratic Vice President nominee Tim Walz's rescue dog Scout somehow locked himself in a bedroom. This was shared on WeRateDogs on Instagram but the whole story can be found on Twitter.

Then there was this hilarious follow up post:

And then just look at Scout who looks mighty pleased with himself here:

I have had pets lock themselves in rooms before and have never been able to understand how they are able to pull off a feat like this! Scout sure is cute, and it's so fun to see how many times he's been featured on Walz's social media.

Distractify reports, Scout was rescued from Midwest Animal Rescue, after being found in a box next to a high-kill shelter in Oklahoma. Walz had actually promised his son that they could adopt a pup if he won the 2018 gubernatorial election. "We were in the room on Election Night, and the folks were in there, and it came on TV they called the race, and Gus immediately screamed, "I get a puppy!'" Walz said, per Fox 9. And so the following year, Walz made good on his promise and adopted a then-3-month-old Scout in 2019.

Here's a sweet throwback snap to when the family first adopted Scout.

The Walz family also have a rescue cat named Honey that they adopted from the Animal Humane Society in 2024. Walz made this sweet PSA in conjunction with the Humane Society about Honey and rescue pets.

Walz introduces himself in the video and says, "I just wanted to talk a little bit about rescue pets and our latest addition to our family, Honey the kitty." he then goes on to explain why he adopted Honey and said, "Well, first of all, we are grateful for the work the Humane Society does. There's so many pets out there they need adopted,  and they're so great on how they do it. It's a very easy process. It also makes sure they're able to fund the  ongoing operations that they do. But we wanted to make sure Honey got a good home and I think everyone who's listening to this probably knows, they rescue you as much as you rescue them."

 That's so true!
